What is crystal lattice in mineralogy ?
Crystal lattice : definition
The crystal lattice is the result of the regular repetition ad infinitum, in the three directions of space, of an atom or a group of atoms (the unit cell) constituting the crystal.
Atoms or groups of atoms can be arranged in 14 different ways : these are the 14 Bravais lattices, themselves grouped into 7 crystalline systems : cubic, tetragonal, orthorhombic, hexagonal, rhombohedral, monoclinic and triclinic.
