What is a xenolith in geology ?
Xenolith : definition
A xenolith is an enclave in an igneous rock (volcanic or plutonic). It is most often a fragment of rock, sometimes of very deep origin, brought up by lava or "digested" by magma during its ascent.
Diamonds are, for example, xenoliths, ie fragments brought up from the depths of the earth by kimberlites. But xenoliths are more often ordinary rocks (granite, peridotite, etc...).
