A tactite is a variety of calcium hornfel developed by contact metamorphism in carbonate rocks of various petrographic natures (limestone, marl-limestone, calcareous pelites, etc...).
The tactite mineralogy is rich, usually dominated by calcic amphiboles (actinolite, tremolite...), calcic garnets (grossular, andratite), diopside, wollastonite and/or vesuvianite.
Minerals can also form there in appreciable quantities, going so far as to constitute deposits of tungsten, copper, iron, gold, etc...
Tactite and skarn can be considered as first approximation synonyms.
